When are specialised searches useful? Back to Top

Specialised searches can be useful in the following instances when:
  • Public Users (those not subscribed to the CHI) require further information
  • Super Users (those subscribed to CHI) require large or complex searches to be carried out
Benefits of a specialised search undertaken by cultural heritage team Back to Top

Specialised personalised searches will provide you with specialist knowledge, professional advice and interpretation. This can be highly valuable in those instances where you may be unsure if an archaeological assessment of a property is required.
Please note that the Auckland Council is no longer able to provide lists of heritage consultants. However, a list of archaeological consultants available to undertake this work can be found on the New Zealand Archaeological Association website.

What information do I need to provide for a specialised search? Back to Top
For general searches, please provide a location and any other relevant information, for example:
  • Address e.g. 21 Pitt Street
  • Lot and DP number e.g. Lot 5 DP 20687 or Pt Lot 4 DP 20681
  • CHI number (every site in the CHI has a unique number) e.g. 17894
  • New Zealand Archaeological Association (NZAA) number (for archaeological sites only) e.g. R10/57
  • Name of site e.g. Civic Theatre
  • Local council e.g. Waitakere City Council
  • Area e.g. Mahurangi.
And for detailed searches, please provide the following where possible:
  • Detailed map showing the exact area of interest, e.g. land parcel/section clearly depicted or NZMS 260 topographic location
  • Specific defined search with grid coordinates, preferably in NZTM (New Zealand Transverse Mercator Projection) and not NZMG (New Zealand Map Grid)
  • As description of whether you require all cultural heritage site types or specific site types e.g. built heritage and historic botanical.
Where fees apply and you are not already a client of Auckland Council, please also provide your address (including postal if different), telephone number, email address, bank details and GST details (where applicable).

Please note that in some cases, searches carried out by the CH Team may be subject to a fee. You will be advised accordingly. The charges for manual specialised searches carried out by the CH Team are based on the cost of staff time and maintenance of the database. This also includes a fee for information on archaeological sites derived from NZAA’s Archsite and DSRS (click here for more information on NZAA and archaeological data).
